OpenAI Eyes $30 Billion Injection at $1.25 Trillion Valuation
The AI giant is reportedly finalizing a massive private funding round that would make it the most valuable private company in history, potentially delaying its public market debut.

The race to monetize artificial intelligence is accelerating, and the biggest player in the game is reportedly looking to lock in another massive sum of capital before heading to the public markets. According to recent reports, OpenAI is in the late stages of negotiations for a new private funding round that could reach up to $30 billion.
The proposed valuation for this round stands at $1.25 trillion on a pre-money basis. This figure is slightly lower than the $1.4 trillion valuation reported by Bloomberg just last month, suggesting that terms are still being actively negotiated and could shift as the deal is finalized. The round is reportedly being led by the investment firm Coatue, with significant participation from investors based in the United Arab Emirates.
The involvement of UAE-based capital appears to go beyond simple equity investment. Sources indicate that the funding could be tied to a separate agreement designed to secure additional computing capacity for OpenAI from the region. This infrastructure deal would be crucial for supporting the company's expanding model training and inference needs, though OpenAI has declined to comment on the specifics of these arrangements.
If the $1.25 trillion valuation holds, OpenAI would shatter existing records to become the most valuable private company in the world. This milestone would significantly raise the stakes for its upcoming initial public offering. The company filed confidential IPO paperwork back in June, following a March funding round that valued the ChatGPT creator at $852 billion on a post-money basis. A jump to over one trillion dollars in private hands would set a very high bar for public investors.
The move also has ripple effects for the broader AI sector, particularly for OpenAI's main rival, Anthropic. Many industry observers believe Anthropic is closer to launching its own IPO, with rumors suggesting its S-1 filing could appear any day. CNBC reports that Anthropic is targeting a valuation between $1.5 and $2 trillion for its public debut. This would follow a May round in which the company raised $65 billion at a $965 billion valuation, a move widely seen as its final major private raise before going public.
For now, the focus remains on whether OpenAI can close this deal on its preferred terms. The outcome will not only define the company's immediate financial future but also signal the current ceiling for valuations in the AI industry. As both giants prepare for potential public listings, the competition for investor attention and capital intensity continues to escalate.
